Rihanna To Star In The Bodyguard Remake: Other Pop Stars Vying For The Role

There's a rumour circulating that Warner Brothers is set to remake the worldwide smash 'The Bodyguard.' The original movie paired Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner and became one of the studio's biggest hit grossing $411 million worldwide. The film also sold over 42 million albums making it the best-selling soundtrack of all time.

According to the source, "The new film will be similar, inluding the love story but the bodyguard will be a former Iraq War veteran who gets the job protecting the star as his first gig after leaving the Army.” The bodyguard will find his job more difficult after he discovers that Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and gossip bloggers makes it easier to stalk and harrass a celebrity.

Now the big question is who will be chosen to play Whitney's character? According to rumour mill, WB is looking for a young star who has a global appeal. Deadline.com is reporting that Rihanna might be the lucky girl to cover 'I Will Always Love You.' This will not be the first role for the 'S&M' singer as she is scheduled to appear opposite Alexander Skarsgard in Battleship. Other stars linked to the movie are Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.

I think in order for the remake to succeed, they should choose someone who can nail Whitney's classic. I don't see Rihanna, Miley or Taylor singing the song that sold 12 million copies worldwide. I can see Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Christina Aguilera and Charice belting it out and putting their own twist to it. Problem is do they have the global appeal?

Or maybe it's better to tap the power of Britney Spears, modify the song into an electropop single with dubstep then wow the viewers with an amazing choreography. Besides, Britney is not new to this experience as she's been into one three or four years ago. They can even change the title of the movie to "The Bodyguard: The Britney Spears Story."

Kidding aside, I think a remake of this film is unnecessary as it might destroy any merits that the original movie has earned.

A remake will just be a poor copy because WH is unique. Charice might be able to nail the entire song also Jennifer Hudson let's leave this to WH forever.

Charice is the queen

I think they should use Charice's voice as the female lead's singing voice.I believe she's the only singer right now who could do the best rendition of 'I Will Always Love You'.
